To clearly communicate exactly what we do, we at AQ International make a clear distinction between renovation and preservation of air handling units (AHUs). Both processes have their own objectives, but complement each other excellently.
In renovation, we technically restore an existing AHU to an optimal and safe working condition without having to replace the entire unit. This is particularly interesting for installations that are still structurally sound, but where parts are showing wear or where corrosion is occurring.
With special coatings such as AQ Cast Floor Coating and AQ Wall Coating, we treat degraded surfaces and protect the system from further oxidation. This extends the service life considerably.
By using the high-quality EnergyGuard® coating, we protect heat exchangers (such as cooling, heating or recovery coils) from influences of moisture, temperature and chemicals.
If necessary, we replace components such as heat wheels, motors or complete batteries. This increases the reliability of the system and reduces the likelihood of malfunctions.
Renovation is a smart choice when the unit is still usable, but is no longer performing optimally or is beginning to wear out. It is often the most cost-effective solution, especially when complete replacement is not financially or practically feasible.
Preservation goes a step further than renovation. Here the emphasis is on structurally improving the energy consumption, efficiency and controllability of the system. This is especially relevant for organizations looking to reduce their carbon footprint, meet increasingly stringent energy standards, or make long-term savings.
Classic belt-driven motors are being replaced by EC technology. These modern, direct drives consume up to 30% less energy, require hardly any maintenance and increase safety by not containing any belts prone to wear.
Old batteries or heat wheels are replaced with newer, more efficient versions with higher yields and lower resistance, providing more stable and economical climate management.
Modern control systems make it possible to dynamically adjust air flow rates based on occupancy, CO₂ levels or time controls, which increases comfort and saves energy.
A combination that pays off
In practice, we often combine both approaches: we renovate where necessary, and preserve where possible. In this way we create a solution that is technically reliable, legally sound and future-proof.
The result?
A sustainable system that will last for years, with lower energy consumption, reduced maintenance costs, and optimal indoor climate for your building.
